while my mom was here for colsen's birth, she brought along some ingredients for us to make our own baby soap! i knew that i wanted to keep things as clean and organic as i could for our little boy and this was such a simple task to make our own soap. the great thing is that you can use this as face soap as well! when we use it, he smells sooo good and it's comforting knowing exactly what ingredients i am putting on his precious (and incredibly soft!) baby skin :)

i loved making these simple (+ easy!) burp cloths for our baby. since i got my sewing machine for christmas, i've been trying it out with some simple sewing projects for our home and for the babe on the way. maybe one day i'll attempt to make this cute shirt, if i'm daring enough to try :)

i've tried several different face soaps and lotions to help my skin. i've had this constant battle with acne over the years and i've felt like nothing has really helped. this summer i've tried my best to avoid wearing foundation or powder in hopes that my skin would clear up... which didn't really help. on the other hand, in just the short amount of time that i've decided to go natural by changing my make-up to a more "clean" brand and using oils as face cleanser (+ moisturizer!) i've noticed a big difference! the redness in my skin has calmed down and i haven't been totally breaking out lately. hallelujah!
i actually gave away the cetafil face cleanser that i've been using for yearrsss and decided to try out my own homemade face wash. luckily i had 2 of the 3 ingredients at home, so it was an easy task.


  

i couldn't stand our bare walls so i came up with an easy way to decorate! finding small amounts of string is hard when you don't have craft supplies just laying around. luckily walmart has some cheap finds! i found lace strands for $1 and the mini clothespins for super cheap as well. and there you have it! probably the easiest DIY project you can do to add a little something to your walls.

while thrifting yesterday, i came across this beauty. i've been on the look out for some kind of project to do this summer. especially with taking online classes this semester, i have to take a break from the computer and work on something productive. when i saw this nightstand i couldn't resist. is it stable? yes. 20 bucks? why not! my vision instantly came to mind of repainting it, touching it up and changing the knobs anthropologie style. cute huh? i think so. i can't wait to get started on it!

so funny thing. you'll never guess what i found stuck behind the drawers... a condom! wrapped of course. how random is that? but i guess it matches up with the victorias secret price tag left in the top drawer as well. HAH.

ever since seeing this tutorial by the lovely tinge floral, i've been wanting to do it myself! i had a few succulents laying around with no home for them so i finally made my own terrarium. i love plants but don't have a green thumb, so we'll see how long they'll last (crossing my fingers!). 
i've been MIA since we've moved to california. we are both loving it here. kevin is busy all day every day with selling pest control and being the team leader. meanwhile, i am now taking online classes for the semester and staying busy with the wives on the team during the day! this will be an amazing summer and we feel so blessed to be here. anyone from sacramento? let's hang out!

guess what? we finally finished our coffee table! i tell ya, it looks easy to make but it was difficult. neither of us are craftsmen, so it was many lessons learned in the making of this future family heirloom coffee table. several worn out screws and 3 broken drill bits later, we were happy to display it in our apartment for our pizza get together last night with friends.

over the weekend i was feeling crafty and decided to make something that i could easily do with what i already had. luckily there were a few wooden kitchen spoons laying around that i thought were looking pretty ugly, so thank you to pinterest, i had the idea to paint mine. i loved the ones from anthropologie.

crafting is always better with a friend, so friday night claire and i painted our kitchen spoons (while our husbands talked about economic homework... etc, etc). i decided to do mine plain white. she decided to do hers each different colors (i wish i had a photo of them!). i loved the colors she picked out and they looked more like these. 

living in an older apartment complex at college, with hideous patterned couches, you have little amount of options to stylize your apartment. here are some little projects and ways that i added some personality to our front room and kitchen!
printed this quote and now its the motto of the apartment. "chin up buttercup. everythings going to be OK." somedays its nice to read that as you walk out the front door. its hanging in a cheap plastic photo frame from target.

i bought some cheap styrofoam boards from walmart and using paint and tape i made the chevron and stripes. the camera photo i printed out and pasted on there then painted a border. i found a couple frames to hang up along with them. the bike photo was printed as well and hung in the same type of frame as the "chin up buttercup" quote. all of these printed photos i found through pinterest.
